“On this site”: Penn Yan Boat Company

Charles A. Herrmann, a German immigrant and the namesake of The Moorings on Keuka community roadway, founded Penn Yan Boat Company on this site in 1921. For 80 years, the company produced wooden (and later fiberglass) powerboats, sailboats, canoes, and rowboats. Antique boat enthusiasts around the world are familiar with the iconic and classic Penn Yan wooden boat—which residents of The Moorings just might see cruising the outlet outside their windows.
